Dan Miles, Managing Director and Co-Chief Investment Officer
Dan has led Innova since 2010, and is responsible for overall portfolio management of many of Innova’s managed account portfolios. He also oversees the design and refinement of the company’s quantitative modelling processes based on Innova’s unique approach to managing investment risk. Dan is a Responsible Manager for Innova Portfolio Management and Fortnum Private Wealth. Before being appointed to his current role, Dan was Chief Operating Officer at Fortnum Financial Advisers and, prior to that, held investment research positions with RI Advice Group and Genesys Wealth Advisers.
Dan is an active contributor to media discussions on issues affecting the investment and advice industries and has co-written a number of research reports on portfolio construction and risk management including in partnership with global actuarial firm, Milliman.
Dan holds a Graduate Certificate in Applied Finance from Macquarie University, where he was awarded the university prize for Risk and Portfolio Construction. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) with Merit and a Bachelor of Science, both from the University of NSW.
Dinyar Irani, Chairman and Co-Chief Investment Officer
Dinyar specialises in domestic and international equities, domestic property and contributes to Innova’s house views of the economy and markets. Dinyar is a Responsible Manager for Innova Asset Management and Fortnum Private Wealth.
Dinyar has almost twenty years of industry experience, most recently as the Head of Investment Research at RI Advice Group/ RetireInvest (now a division of ANZ Bank) and Genesys Wealth Advisers/Associated Planners (now a division of AMP). His model portfolios were highly regarded by advice professionals and achieved long term outperformance above both the weighted market index and industry peers.
Dinyar holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) from the University of Technology Sydney and a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning from Deakin University.
Sophie Temperton, General Manager
Sophie commenced working with Innova in late 2013 and is responsible for implementing and managing the organisational strategy whilst ensuring operational and execution excellence across our Managed Accounts.
Sophie is a qualified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago (majoring in Finance & Economics). Sophie was also the recipient of the: ‘Scholarship for Excellence in Commerce’, ‘CFA Scholarship’, ‘Bonded Merit Scholarship’, ‘Business Women’s Scholarship’ and ‘Economics Scholarship’.
Shane Wang, Investment Research Analyst
Shane joined Innova in mid-2013 and focuses on fund management related operations and researching alternative risk management/ investment strategies.
In 2014, Shane commenced research for his PhD in Phylogenetics Risk Management, specialising in understanding the characteristics of evolving financial risks.
He holds a Master of Commerce in Risk Management (Quantitative Risk) from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Software Engineering degree with Honours from the University of Auckland.
Young Yang, Quantitative Research Analyst
Young is a Quantitative Research Analyst within Innova, having joined the team in 2016.
Young holds a Graduate Certificate of Mathematics from the University of Technology Sydney, a Master of Finance from the University of Technology Sydney as well as a Bachelor of Science also from the University of Technology Sydney.
Previously Young spent 9 years as a data analyst in various roles, working with big data and analyzing complex data-sets.
Doug Hope, Head of Distribution
Doug joined Innova in November 2016 and is responsible for growing distribution through the Dealer/Licensee, Private Label and Financial Adviser/Intermediary channels.
He has extensive experience in business development and account management.Before Innova, Doug was a senior manager at Macquarie Bank, where he spent eight years leading sales teams in the Banking and Financial Services division, working across both retail and intermediary distribution channels.
Prior to Macquarie Bank, Doug worked as a Manager at one of Australia’s largest independent financial planning practices, focusing on high net worth clients.
Doug holds a Bachelor of Business from University of Technology, Sydney and a Diploma of Financial Planning.
Sam Chapman, Portfolio Administrator
Sam became a member of the Innova team in December 2017.
Sam holds a Master of Applied finance from the University of Newcastle, a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Newcastle as well as a Bachelor of Business from the University of Newcastle.
Prior joining Innova, Sam worked at a financial planning practice supporting 2 advisers.
Cameron Askarian, IT Administrator
Cameron is currently in his final semester completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Business Information Systems & Business Law) at The University of Sydney.
He joined Innova in January 2017 as an IT Administrator and previously worked at Advanced Building Approvals carrying out business process modelling and improvement.
He also holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from The University of Technology Sydney.
Nicholas Yaxley, Consultant, Fixed Income
Nick Yaxley is the Head of Research and Product development within BondAdviser. Nick is responsible for managing the research team, delivering the valuation methodology and overseeing the quality and accuracy of all data and research produced. He undertakes fundamental credit analysis on domestic and international companies operating across a range of sectors as well as strategy based research on broader themes.
Prior to joining BondAdviser, Nick spent 2 years with the Equity and Credit Research Morningstar team in Sydney. In this role, Nick was responsible for all research debt and hybrid research across the rating spectrum. Prior to Morningstar, Nick spent 7 years in London with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust and JP Morgan Asset Management as a corporate credit analyst.
Nick holds a Bachelor of Business in Economics and Finance from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. As a co-founder of the company, Nick also has significant involvement in the strategic direction of the business.
Fred Vosvenieks, Senior Consultant, Milliman (London)
Fred is a senior consultant within Milliman’s Life and Financial Services practice, and has over 10 years of risk management experience. He joined Milliman in 2008, having previously worked for HSBC. Fred is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.
Fred has worked with a wide variety of firms to enhance their existing systems of governance and risk management frameworks, and has played a lead role in implementing Milliman’s risk management solutions within both insurance and non-insurance businesses.
Fred has advised clients on a range of risk management areas including risk appetite design and limit setting, risk policy development, risk monitoring, operational and emerging risk assessment, and strategic risk profiling. Fred has contributed to Milliman’s research on a range of areas including retirement provision, asset return forecasting, and operational risk.
Fred leads the relationship between Milliman and Innova, and works closely with the investment team to further develop and enhance Innova’s risk-factor based investment framework.
Jonathan Lim, Consultant, Milliman (London)
Jonathan is a consulting actuary in Milliman’s Life and Financial Services practice. He joined Milliman from university in 2011 where he studied mathematics. Jonathan is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.
Jonathan has been involved with a range of risk management assignments, including stress and scenario testing, capital forecasting, and causal risk modelling. He has also contributed to regulatory reporting, demographic experience analysis, liability valuations, and risk capital calculations.
For Innova, Jonathan jointly oversees (with Jennifer Strickland) the monthly production of risk-factor based asset return forecasts across a range of asset classes, sectors, and geographies.
Jennifer Strickland, Consultant, Milliman (London)
Jennifer is a consulting actuary in Milliman’s Life and Financial Services practice. She joined Milliman in 2015, having started her career working for Legal & General. Jennifer is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.
Jennifer has assisted firms on a wide variety of investment and risk management assignments. She has worked with both insurers and asset management companies on balance sheet forecasting, scenario analysis, market and liquidity risk management, and asset liability matching.
Jennifer’s wider experience covers financial and regulatory reporting, M&A transactions, and risk modelling.
For Innova, Jennifer jointly oversees (with Jonathan Lim) the monthly production of risk-factor based asset return forecasts.
Sophie Smyth, Associate, Milliman (London)
Sophie is an associate in Milliman’s Life and Financial Services practice. She joined Milliman in 2016 from university where she studied mathematics.
Sophie has assisted firms with asset valuation, liability cash flow projection, experience analysis, and data preparation. She has also been involved in balance sheet and risk profile forecasting for a number of firms, including asset managers and life and health insurers.
Sophie has been involved in Milliman research on topics such as volatility managed funds and income drawdown products.
For Innova, Sophie is part of the team which produces risk-factor based asset return forecasts.
